Want to know one of the clearest signals of someone operating at a higher level?

Flappability… or rather, how unflappable they are.

Look—we all get flapped.

You’re not living in the real soup of modern life if you don’t get flapped on a regular basis.

Getting flapped is not the point.

The question is—how long do you stay there?

And here’s where it gets interesting—

There are two types of “unflappable.”

The first looks composed on the outside… but on the inside, they’re holding it.

Absorbing it.
Stacking it.
Building quiet layers of tension, resentment, even anger.

Unflappable on the surface… but getting heavier underneath.

The second type?

They let it move.

The emotion comes… and it passes through.

That’s the witness.

Not stepping out of the moment—but observing yourself inside it.

Not becoming the reaction.

But getting there isn’t as simple as deciding to.

You can actually hear the difference in the question that shows up.

At first, it sounds like:

“Why did they have to piss me off?”

That’s the reaction talking.
Outward. Certain. Blaming.

If there’s a little space, it softens to:

“Why did that bother me?”

Closer… but still tight.

And then something subtle happens:

“That’s interesting… why did this bother me?”

Same question.

Different state.

That’s the moment the witness comes online.

Because the people who don’t get stuck there… they’re not suppressing anything.

They’re curious.

Curiosity is what lets you stay with it without needing to close it.

It doesn’t show up when you’re certain.
It shows up when you’re willing to not know… and stay with it anyway.

And if you follow that long enough… something else starts to happen.

You begin to see the structure of your own thinking.

The patterns.
The assumptions.
The places you’ve closed things off too quickly.

Curiosity has a way of exposing how fragile certainty actually is.

Especially inside an echo chamber.

So if you’re trying to be more aware… don’t chase awareness.

Watch your flappability.

And follow your curiosity.

It will show you more than control ever could.
